Thomas Jefferson Roane was born March 20 1801 in Essex Virginia. Thomas married Mary Grant and lived in Rockingham County. Mary was from Caswell County. If you notice, Archibald Grant Roane is the judge who signed the marriage certificate. On December 22, 1830 they moved from Rockingham County to Macon County by covered wagon. They had four children: William Hearne, James Milton, John Russell, Thomas Ruffin Roane. I read another record that suggested eleven children. They had a large number of slaves. They settled in the Upper Cartoogechaye area named as Roane's Mill. They had a farm, store, blacksmith, shop, post office and a mill on that large property.
